Tuljapur is a city and a municipal council in Osmanabad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.The town of Tuljapur was earlier known as Chinchpur, the land of tamarind trees.The town is a famous temple Tulja Bhavani Temple, dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Bhavani.The town received much importance in past centuries, since the temple enjoys a special association with the Bhonsale clan to which Chhatrapati Shivaji belonged. Goddess Bhavani was the family deity of the Bhonsale clan.

Tuljapur is one of the four Shakti Peethas of Maharashtra where mother Goddess, Shakti is worshipped.Historic records speak of the existence of this temple from as early as the 12th century. The temple is on the eastern side of the lower fort. As one enters from the gateway one has to descend nearly some fifteen feet to reach the first stage of the temple Prakara. This stage consists mainly of the large tank known as the Kallola tirth.

As the Goddess Bhavani is the deity of many people from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh they come walking in Dasera Festival to worship Goddess Bhavani.
